*** Cellphones as Search Tools *** Subject: Re' Cell Phones Date: Sun, 16 Feb 1997 18:06:29 -0800 From: Dick Sale To: sar-l@islandnet.com A couple of "cents worth" on cell phones. They are here, are being used, so add them to the bag of tricks that a SAR person has. My team uses cell phones for missing person background info, from the base camp to the city. Also CPs' are a means to communicate from home base to SAR base. The cell system it self can be a search tool. Get a good contact with the technoids at the cell company, they can find which sites were used to make the calls (need to have unit phone number). This has helped us locate which side of the massif the missing person was on when he was lost in a blinding snow storm. Like I said if you can't beat em' join em'.
