With plastic pipe build a T with a hose fitting on the bottom of the T
and a pipe slightly bigger than the rope on the top of the T. Turn on the
water full blast and pass the rope through the top of the T several times.

The best method I have found is using a device called a Dobi Rope Brush.
It is a cylindrical brush which wraps around the rope. This is then worked
up and down the rope in mild soapy water. It costs about £10 in the UK but
I think it comes from America anyway.
Remember do not clean a new rope.They have a waxy type of substance on
the sheath which needs to be worked into the rope by using it.
