I just got some scoop from a guy who's the head of one of their committities, ROGER EBRUN 020.3021@compuserve.com>. Here it is in edited form. May I suggest that you or someone from your team join ASTM, that way you will be up to date on all that's happening in the effort to create standards for the rescue community. It sounds like you might be a member already, or you have access to someone who is (Standardization News?). It cost $65.00 a year for membership, and you can be a member on as many technical committees as you would like. The only catch is that you will need to vote as ballots come out or will be dropped from that sub-committee for failure to vote. In F32 (Search and Rescue) there are 8 sub-committees. They are F32.01 Equipement Testing, .02 Search Management, .03 Personnel Education and Training, .04 Search Techniques, .05 Rescue Operations and Technology, .06 Terminology, .07 Communications, and .09 Executive. If you would like to join, here is a phone number that you can contact someone at ASTM for an application. Her name is Peggy Cicchitti, staff manager for F32 at (215) 299-5560. Someone there can help you out with any questions in reguards to the Society. Kevin Sweere M.S. in Mech Eng, Michigan Tech Univ.
