St. Louis County Sheriff's
                            Volunteer Rescue Squad

                          Effective January 9th 1998

Serving the citizens of St. Louis County, Minnesota, USA, in the areas of
Wilderness Search and Rescue, Boat and Water Safety, and First Aid &
Public Safety since 1958.

The Rescue Squad is composed of 55 volunteers situated throughout St.Louis
County, located on the north shore of Lake Superior in Northeastern
Minnesota. The Squad averages 230 calls per year, consisting of some 50-60
wilderness operations, 20-30 water operations, 90-110 road operations, and
30-40 medical and miscellaneous missions. The Squad is composed of a
southern unit based in Duluth and a northern unit based in the town of
Cook. Due to the county's size, emergency services elements are dispatched
from one of two CAD (computer aided dispatch) enhanced 9-1-1 centers, and
each Rescue Squad unit is dispatched from its respective 9-1-1 center.

Dispatch is by radio pager over the county sheriff's primary law
enforcement frequency. Our snail-mail address is:  St. Louis County

regular business hours, or (218) 726-2343 to reach the Patrol Division
Office 24 hours a day. To contact the Rescue Squad garage in Duluth, dial
(218) 729-8723. An answering machine will take your message if nobody is
there.

To obtain rescue services anywhere in St. Louis County, local residents
dial 911.
