(1-800-827-6364) On the morning of January 15th, a father and 12-year-old son were helicoptered out of one of the drainages below Algonquin Peak, after having got lost near the summit the afternoon before. Their core temperatures were 90 degrees F when they were found, and they were unable to assist getting themselves into the helicopter, and unable to speak during the ride to the hospital. They had left their packs at treeline for the final push. They did not have snowshoes when found, although rangers said their tracks looked like snowshoes because of the amount of ice encrusted on their boots. We climbed Algonquin the afternoon of the 14th as well. Winds were up to 50 miles per hour, with clouds obliterating visibility off and on. We camped out nearby the night they spent outdoors, and it got down to minus 10 deg F. We heard rangers shouting with flashlights in the middle of the night. We watched an NBC TV crew interview a ranger in the parking lot of the Adirondak Lodge when we came out. (TheBone123) -----------------------------------------
