*** SAR Dog 'Cedar' has a Nose for Success *** To: Search & Rescue Info Date sent: Wed, 20 Dec 95 12:58:35 -0800 From: Bruce Bowler Subject: SAR News To: "Matt Anderson" , REGARDING SAR News Alaska State Troopers called SEADOGS just about dark (1530) on the 19th to help look for a 26 year old deer hunter in the mountains of Douglas Island, across the channel from Juneau. 26 year old Jonathan Wyatt, who had moved to Alaska from California, was overdue from a hunting trip. Within less than an hour of hard pushing a mile and 100' vertical feet thru very heavy underbrush, deep snow and heavy rain in the dark, search dog "Cedar" caught the subject's scent and bored in to find him huddled under a root wad, trying to retain rapidly fleating body heat in a near freezing downpour. The subject, Jonathan Wyatt, was wearing cotton camouflage and was hypothermic--when we got him warmed up, he told me that he had stopped shivering and was getting numb. Jonathan's family was waiting in the dark at the search base with dry clothes. Juneau Mountain Rescue had hot tea on the stove to help rewarm the exhausted hunter. SEADOGS wants to say THANK YOU to all of you who keep the peace, and help bring people home for the holidays. Merry Christmas to you all. ------------------------------------
