*** Four Teens return Safe & Sound - but a Little Poorer *** 6th August 1997 Halifax Regional Search and Rescue received a callout from Lower Sackville R.C.M.P. at 1:06 pm on Tuesday August 5. Overdue were four teenagers (two males and two females). The initial call came from one of the boys fathers who noted that they were due back at 8:00 am from a stay at a Cabin on McCabe Lake north of Sackville. Currently there is a ban on any woods travel and open fires in all of Nova Scotia due to the unprecedented dryness. The R.C.M.P. initial investigation had checked out the cabin and had found no trace of the subjects. R.C.M.P. I/C Everette Densmore and HRSAR Search Manager Tony Rodgers had just got Team Members tasked out to hasty search the trails leading to the lake and the surrounding shores when at 3:16 pm they were spotted exiting a trail to where their vehicle was parked. An interview following the search revealed they had gone in to the cabin the day before and were unable to locate it. They ended up spending the night in the woods, but found the cabin the next day. Rather than return for 8:00 am they decided to remain for the day and consume their liquid refreshments. The R.C.M.P. gave them the option of accepting a charge for being in the woods when they were not supposed to be ($565) or having open liquor while being underage ($365). Thanks goes out to Halifax Regional Search and Rescue and Lower Sackville R.C.M.P..
