BACKGROUND: This material is compiled by amateur radio volunteers at the Provincial Emergency Program (PEP) head office in Victoria, BC. It is sent throughout British Columbia on the amateur radio packet data network. It has been retrieved from an amateur radio packet BBS and adapted for the Mindlink BBS. When a community volunteer SAR group responds to a call for assistance, a task number is issued by PEP headquarters to cover basic expenses. The information about the operation is provided by the SAR group and makes up the summary of the operational tasks you see below. NWE Region - 19 Mar - UPDATE Missing snowmobiler's body was located 19 Mar and brought out by Houston SAR team. 2. KTN Region - 22 Mar - 10 Golden SAR responded to rescue two boys over a cliff. The boys were rescued from the cliff side. They were uninjured. 3. NWE Region - 22 Mar - 2 Terrace SAR responded to search for 2 overdue fishermen north of Terrace. They were located on an unploughed road. Their vehicle had been stuck in the snow. The two fishermen were taken out and the vehicle was brought out by tow truck. 4. CTL Region - 23 Mar - 6 Williams Lake SAR and 3 PEP Air responded to search for 5 overdue skiers in the Hilda Lake area, east of Williams Lake. The 5 overdue people walked to the shore of Hilda Lake. They were met by ground transportation and taken to Horsefly. 5. SCO Region - 25 Mar - 3 Lower Mainland PEP Air responded to search for an ELT transmitting in the Pitt Meadows/Langley area. The ELT was located in a helicopter at the Langley Airport and shut off prior to the arrival of PEP Air. 6. SCO Region - 26 Mar - 2 Lower Mainland PEP Air members assisted in a search after a citizen reported seeing a plane go down south of Pitt Meadows near the Serpentine River. Concurrently a report was received by RCC of an ELT sounding in that area. 12 Surrey SAR members responded to do a ground search. RCC stood search down when it was discovered the ELT was on a para-glider that had gone down on Woodside Mt. (see item 7) 7. SCO Region - 26 Mar - 15 members of Kent SAR responded to rescue a para- glider who had crashed on Woodside Mt. in the Kent-Harrison area. Para-glider was rescued and transported to hospital. 8. FVA Region - 26 Mar - 3 Lower-Mainland PEP Air respoded to an RCC request to search for an ELT sounding 15 miles NW of Chilliwack. ELT sounding was fixed from the air in the Fort Langley area. Search was carried out on the ground using a homer. The ELT was located in a glider on the ground. Switch was in "on" position. 9. OKN Region - 26 Mar - 6 Peachland SAR members were called out to investigate flashing lights sighted on Okanagan Lake. SAR members in their Zodiac located the lights on a houseboat whose motor had seized up on the other side of the lake.
