* Hiker Survives 200ft Fall over Cloudland Canyon, NW Georgia Mtns, USA * Wed Dec 4 15:04:40 1996 From: TradMan Address : tradman@chattanooga.net Subject : Hiker falls 200+ feet and survives (so far) Hey All, A German (I was told) hiker was at Cloudland Canyon, on Lookout Mtn. and climbed over the fence to get a "better look" over the bluff. He apparently lost his footing and took a 200 to 300 foot plunge. He survived the night and the cold (25 deg F) at the base of the cliff. No one saw him fall but somehow rescuers found him and airlifted him out. At this time he is still alive but in critical condition. They didn't describe him as a climber, even though he may have been one. Probably not, though. Unfortunately nonclimbers seldom have enough respect for clifftops and the danger of getting too close to the edge. Hopefully he'll recover. TradMan --------------------------
