*** Canine SAR Dog Find *** Sun Mar 12 20:06:06 1995 Message : #23283916 From: Amir Findling Address : WNYSRCHDOG@AOL.COM Subject : K-9 SAR find Msg-ID: <950312223019_47536474@aol.com> Saturday, as I was on my way from Buffalo to Rochester NY, to possibly get a new pup (Labrador of course) I got paged to a search. My wife was with me and I had to drop her at the Rochester airport to rent a car so that she at least could see the pups, go home, take care of her dog (a GSD, sore point) and work. Fortunately I had thrown my daypack, a portable radio and hiking boots in the van, just in case! We worked all day and just as the search effort was about to be terminated for the day, Steve Myers and his veteran GDS Tess and myself with Chip got to check two adjacent high probability areas. Tess and Steve were 200-300 feet above and in front of us. Chip and I were checking a gully when Tess refused to follow a directional signal from Steve, alerted and found. Chip entered the scent cone alerted and found too. The victim, presumed suicide was extricated before dark. For Chip, this is the culmination of years of training! (Tess has several other finds to her credit). The victim was found within 1/4 mile from the PLS in a favorite hunting spot near pines in the woods. The next day, I resumed my puppy hunting and I am now the proud daddy of Amir's Shadowdale Doppleradar, a black male Labrador which will hopefully have a career in obedience and SAR. Good lines, local but solid and close to Chip, good puppy test scores and good impression in general. I was very happy to have had a minimum of personal equipment with me, including my SAR dog Chip. In the future I will probably have even more equipment just in case. I had enough stuff to last 24 hours in the field but extra boots and clothes would have been handy and ditto for my doggie bag. Need to go feed the baby! Amir with Chip the SAR dog and the Doppler Radar Buffalo, NY( where the snow is GONE!) WNYSRCHDOG@aol.com (Amir Findling) -----------------------
