BACKGROUND: This material is compiled by amateur radio volunteers at the Provincial Emergency Program (PEP) head office in Victoria, BC. It is sent throughout British Columbia on the amateur radio packet data network. It has been retrieved from an amateur radio packet BBS and adapted for the Mindlink BBS. When a community volunteer SAR group responds to a call for assistance, a task number is issued by PEP headquarters to cover basic expenses. SCO Region - 27 Feb - 6 Coquitlam SAR members responding to assist with 3 persons who had overturned their canoe in Buntzen Lake, Coquitlam. Prior to the arrival of the teams the 3 persons were assisted ashore by persons in the area. They were transported to hospital by EHS, checked for hypothermia and released. 2. NEA Region - 27 Feb - 1 member Dawson Creek PEP Air responded to request from RCC to an ELT sounding between Ft. St. John and Dawson Creek at 55.54N and 120.23W. Incident was closed when no confirmed ELT hit could be obtained after several satellite passes over the area. 3. KTN Region - 28 Feb - 1 member of Invermere SAR assisted in the rescue of a person injured in an avalanche. Four persons were caught but only one was injured. Injured party was brought out to EHS helicopter and was transported to hospital with undeter- mined injuries. 4. SCO Region - 01 Mar - 4 members of Pemberton SAR responded in rescue of injured snowmobiler at the Coast Outdoor School. Search team utilized snowmobile and toboggan to transport injured person to an area where the EHS could pick him up. It is believed that the injury was a broken hip. 5. NEA Region - 05 Mar - Members of the Prince George and McBride SAR teams responded to search for a buried snowmobiler near Cecilia Lake, Kawka Recreation Site, north of McBride near the Alberta border. 8 Valemount SAR members were placed on standby and one Prince George SAR member assisted.
