OKN Region - 12 Mar - UPDATE - Vehicle was removed from Okanagan Lake on 12 Feb. The driver was deceased. 2. CTL Region - 13 Mar - 8 members of Logan Lake SAR responded to search for overdue woodcutter in the area of Chartrand Creek near Logan Lake. Woodcutter walked out on his own and returned home. 3. VIS Region - 13 Mar - Campbell River SAR responded with 15 members in search for a woman missing in the rural area of Oyster River south of Campbell River. She was suffering from mild hypothermia when located in a park area 15 miles south of the city. She had gone walking and had become disoriented. 4. OKN Region - 14 Mar - 8 Kelowna SAR team members responded in search for 4 missing snowmobilers in the Moore Mt. area. They were located alive and well. They walked out to a cabin where they were found by the search team and escorted out. 5. KTN Region - 14 Mar - 5 members of Invermere SAR responded in search for a skier overdue on the Panorama Ski Hill. He was located in an out of bounds area by the ski hill helicopter and transported out of the area. He had sustained no injuries. 6. NEA Region - 16 Mar - After approximately 24 hours of searching Massett volunteers were called off by RCMP in the search for a missing boater northwest of Massett. Missing male was not located and the RCMP continued their investigation. The search was reopened on 18 Mar when the RCMP requested a thorough search of a specific area. Body of missing boater was located during early evening of 19 Mar. 7. CTL Region - 17 Mar - Bella Coola Rescue members assisted RCMP in the rescue of a mushroom picker who had fallen over a ledge, 20 miles east of Bella Coola. He was rescued successfully and transported to hospital. 8. VIS Region - 18 Mar - 12 members of Arrowsmith SAR were providing on-site communications services as part of a training exercise in Parksville when called upon by EHS to evacuate 2 people injured during a bike race. 9. KTN Region - 19 Mar - 8 Invermere SAR members responded in search for people buried in an avalanche in the Delfor Creek area 180 km southwest of Invermere. Several snowmobilers were "hammerheading" on the mountain which caused a Class 2.5 avalanche burying other snowmobilers who were picnicking below. The avalanche buried eight people. Seven were recovered within minutes as they were equipped with avalanche beacons. It took approximately two hours to recover the remaining snowmobiler. Two males were deceased and one seriously injured 15 year old male was transported to Invermere hospital. A Critical Incident Stress Management Team was called into the site. Several helicopters were used in the search. 10. NWE Region - 19 Mar - 12 members of Houston SAR responded to search for a snowmobiler buried in an avalanche after falling 100 feet down a cliff in the Goosly Lake area near Houston. Four SAR members were flown into the area by helicopter to provide preliminary assessment with only one and one half hours of daylight remaining. RCMP Dog Master from Terrace was used in the search. The snowmobile was located by the search team. Floods: Flooding created minor problems in several areas as the result of heavy rainfalls on 13 & 14 March. Landslide: On 14 Mar a report of a potential landslide was received from Princeton. An embankment was slowly moving and threatening a gas station and several underground tanks. An engineering consulting firm was brought in to assess the threat. On Thursday, 16 Mar the bank was moving 1.5 feet per day at which time it was decided to drill drain holes in the bank to alleviate the water pressure. The wells drained at a flow of 40 gallons per minute. The drains were connected to the municipal sewer. It is anticipated that it may take up to three weeks for the bank to stop moving completely. Town of Princeton will put permanent drainage lines from the new wells to existing drainage pipes. Urban Fires: 14 March Abbotsford 3 persons 17 March Vancouver 2 persons Notices: 1.
