*** Snowboarder found Wandering down Riverbed *** (Sat Jan 4/97): Four snowboarders went down the 'Cakehole' on Whistler Mountain. B.C., down towards the Cheakamus River. They made it to the bottom, although one of them had apparently injured or at least banged himself up on the way down. They separated near Cheakamus River... Three of them made it out and down the road and knocked on the door of the Brian Allen's house, right where the road comes out. He notified Brad Sills of Whistler SAR, who got things rolling. We sent a team up the Cheakamus road on snowmobile and sent a team down to the river. They found the subjects tracks and followed them downstream. The tracks even went into the river and back out! Another team descended from the road to the river further downstream. they found no tracks and proceeded upstream. This team eventually found the subject - a 20 year old male. Pretty cold and miserable and very scared... thought his number was up! He was quite wet and would have been in pretty bad shape by morning. He was given snowshoes and helped back up the hill to the road and them transported down to a waiting ambulance. He was warmed up and checked over before being realeased for transport by RCMP vehicle back to Whistler Village at about 130am.
