CANADIAN AVALANCHE RESCUE DOG ASSOCIATION

                           CALL OUT PROTOCOL
        		Effective December 1997

Handlers in the Whistler, British Columbia area are now all equipped with
pagers. In the event of a Code Alpha*, page any of the following four
numbers and we will contact the remaining CARDA handlers, and between us,
organize a response.

* For a Code Alpha (Emergency) Page - Dial a Pager #, leave your contact
phone# and add 9999 at the end to indicate that it is a Code Alpha Page,
e.g. 123 4567 9999
The responding handler will in turn call an appropriate avalanche dog
team(s), avalanche forcaster and/or control personnel as requested by the
SAR manager.

Note: Horvath, Tindle, Thornton and Bunbury are all available on pagers
24 hours a day. Once contacted any one of the four will initiate a
fan-out call to additional dog handlers, avalanche control personnel
and avalanche forecasters as required.

- Jan and Anton also work as avalanche forecasters and are trained to
evaluate snow stability.
- Horvath, Thornton, Bunbury are also certified in general profile work
(SAR calls other than avalanche)
