The others are either too technical (Avalanche Handbook) or too >vague (ABC's). Also try to find the video Snow Sense. I think I recently read this one and didn't think it was particularly good. Snow Sense is a good non-technical booklet which is pretty popular. Two videos worth viewing are 'A Matter of Balance' and 'Winning the Avalanche Game'. The Avalanche Handbook is a classic and should not be too technical for most people; especially the last edition. The new version by McClung and Shearer is good for professionals, but I think the last USDA version by Perla and Martinelli is better for most people. When I have a chance I'll try to put together a bibliography and post it on the Avalanche gopher menu. One which has references ranging from the most general booklets to the technical literature. The gopher site has a small amount of educational material now. I would like to expand on it, so if anyone has something worth posting there let me know. The gopher site is at gopher://u.cc.utah.edu/11/uafc (or choose 'News and Calenders' from the Univ of Utah server. *********************************************************************** Jim Frankenfield snowman@aip.org 1338 Foothill Dr #170; Salt Lake City, UT 84108 1-800-289-4403 (in US) *********************************************************************** (Jim Frankenfield) -------------------------
