Probably the best known NASAR courses are FUNSAR (Fundamentals of Search and Rescue) and Managing the Search Function. SWT1 & 2 are the Swiftwater Rescue Technician courses you mentioned; our agency (NPS) has sponsored the SWT1 course the last 2 years in this area; it's a good quality course that packs a lot of information and in-water time into about 3 days. Covers Z-rigs, strong swimmer rescue, boat-based rescue and personal safety. Rescue 3 International offers the courses nation-wide in many areas, for approx. $200/person, as I recall. SWT1 is a good, solid course and should be considered nearly mandatory for anyone with areas prone to any sort of swift water; far too many potential-rescuers are still dying due to underestimating the power of moving water and not taking simple personal safety precautions. The SWT2 course complements the SWT1 course and adds in more technical rope work, such as tyroleans, etc.
